Privacy Policy

Last updated: December 2025

Overdrive Tools (“Overdrive”, “we”, “us”, “our”) operates the website https://www.overdrive.tools (the “Service”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, process, and protect information, including Google Drive data, when you use the Service.

1. Scope of This Policy

This Privacy Policy applies to all users of the Service worldwide. By using the Service, you acknowledge that your information may be processed in accordance with this Policy regardless of your location.

2. Google Limited Use Disclosure

Overdrive’s use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Our app strictly adheres to these requirements to ensure your data remains private and secure.

3. Information We Access and Process

When you connect your Google account, Overdrive may access Google Drive data only after you explicitly authorize access through Google’s OAuth consent screen.

Depending on the features you use, this may include:

  • Metadata: Files and folders metadata (names, sizes, types, timestamps).
  • Structure: Folder structure and hierarchy.
  • Permissions: File ownership and sharing information, including information necessary to add or remove user access.
  • Content: Overdrive primarily accesses metadata for its core functions. We do not download, read, or store the internal content of your files unless a specific feature (such as content-based deduplication) explicitly requires it and you initiate that action.

Overdrive does not access Google Drive data without your explicit action and authorization.

4. How We Use Google Drive Data

Google Drive data is used solely to provide the core functionality of the Service, including:

  • Analyzing storage usage and file sizes for hygiene reporting.
  • Displaying folder structures and file organization visual maps.
  • Identifying large, duplicate, or unused files.
  • Moving or deleting files and folders only when initiated and confirmed by you.
  • Managing file and folder sharing permissions only upon your explicit request.

Overdrive does NOT:

  • Sell or rent Google Drive data to third parties.
  • Use Google Drive data for advertising or marketing.
  • Use Google Drive data for training machine learning or AI models.
  • Perform automated or scheduled destructive actions without direct user interaction.

5. Legal Basis for Processing

We process personal data and Google Drive data based on one or more of the following legal bases:

  • Your explicit consent.
  • Performance of a contract (providing the Service you request).
  • Compliance with legal obligations.

Where required by law, you may withdraw consent at any time.

6. Data Storage & Retention

  • Google Drive data is primarily processed in real time to deliver the Service.
  • We do not permanently store or cache copies of your Google Drive files on our servers.
  • Limited technical or operational data (such as connection status) may be temporarily stored to ensure functionality and reliability.

You may revoke Overdrive’s access to your Google account at any time via your Google Account settings.

7. Data Sharing & Human Access

Third-Party Sharing: We do not share your Google Drive data with third parties. We may share limited information with trusted service providers strictly for operating the Service (e.g. hosting, payment processing). Such providers are authorized to process data only as necessary to perform their services and are bound by confidentiality.

Human Access: We do not allow humans to read your Google Drive data. Our employees will not access your Google data unless:

  1. We have obtained your affirmative agreement for specific files (e.g., for support).
  2. It is necessary for security purposes, such as investigating abuse.
  3. It is required to comply with applicable law.
  4. For internal operations, and even then, only when data has been aggregated and anonymized.

8. Billing Information

If you choose to purchase paid features, limited billing-related information may be processed (name, email address, transaction identifiers).

Payments are processed by third-party payment providers. Overdrive does not store full credit card numbers or sensitive payment details. Billing information is used solely for payment processing, account management, and legal compliance.

9. Your Rights & International Transfers

Your information may be processed in countries other than your own. We take reasonable steps to ensure appropriate safeguards are in place. Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. We extend these rights to all users as a baseline standard.

10. “Forget Me” & Data Deletion Requests

You may request deletion of user-related data processed by Overdrive at any time by using our “Forget Me” page:

https://overdrive.tools/forget-me

Requests are handled in accordance with applicable laws and technical limitations.

11. Security

We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect information. However, no system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The updated version will be published on this page with a revised “Last updated” date.
